Losing a loved one is an all encompassing emotional experience. Losing a pet is no exception to this emotional experience. Quite frankly, our relationships with our pets could even have a more deep rooted bond than with other family and friends. When we lose an animal which depended so greatly on us, one which we dedicated our time, resources and often would prioritise our schedules around, we lose not only a companion but a way of life. This emptiness can shake even the toughest of individuals.
Through the grieving process it is important to find ways to relish in the happy memories and know that they will always be in our heart. It is important to embrace and talk about our feelings towards them as we would any other family member. Being able to outwardly express ourselves during this time of loss will eventually help in our healing.
